About the Author

Robert B. Lawson earned his PhD in general-experimental psychology from the University of Delaware in 1965, and then joined the faculty at the University of Vermont (UVM). He was the first Director of the Human Visual Perception Laboratory, and rose to full professor in 1974. He served twice as Chair of the Psychology Department, Dean of the Graduate College and Associate Vice President for Research for eight years, Director of the Master’s program in Public Administration for five years, and served on a number of university-wide commissions. He was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University in 1986-1987 focusing on business administration and organizational sciences. He is the author of thirty journal articles and�four textbooks, a consultant to a number of Vermont organizations, and has been an invited lecturer on organizational psychology in China, Europe, and Russia. He is a recipient of the UVM outstanding teacher award, and one of his students from the class of 1977 endowed a professorship in his name in 2008.�Now Professor Emeritus, he�continues to study organizations as he has been doing for over the past�45 years.

E. Doris Anderson’s multidisciplinary education and work experience afford her an acute awareness of the interdependence shared by biological, psychological, and social systems. Through the years of applied management she has developed a finely-tuned appreciation for the vital role that system’s thinking plays in understanding people and organizations.

Her emphasis on systems phenomena in organizational psychology is born of up-close support for and management of challenges inherent to a wide variety of organizations. Her organizational experiences include psychiatric, community and maternity nursing, crises counseling, youth program administration, public education program development, organizational mediation/consultation, and public administration. Doris earned a Registered Nurse (RN) degree from Good Samaritan School of Nursing, Dayton Ohio in 1972, Bachelors of Art degree in Psychology from the University of Vermont in 1978, and Master of Public Administration in 2004 from the University of Vermont. In 2001 Doris graduated from the Mediation and Conflict Management Program at Woodbury College, Montpelier, Vermont.

Currently Doris devotes her time to writing and lecturing at the University of Vermont, furthering a lifetime commitment to implementing healthful community infrastructure, cooperative work settings, and effective conflict resolution practices.

Larry Rudiger has been a student of organizations from the age of 15, when he entered the workforce. He earned his PhD from the University of Vermont in social psychology, where he was also a postdoctoral fellow in behavior genetics. For nearly ten years, he worked in the private sector, developing clinical decision-support tools for primary-care medicine, learning first-hand about founder-run companies and defense contracting. He returned to academia full-time in 2005 and began teaching organizational behavior in 2009. He is a volunteer consultant to local nonprofits, specializing in outcome evaluation. His first degree is in vocal music, and he’s happy to remain an amateur performer, conductor, and director.

Great information, untrustworthy seller.

Great information. The original book is probably wonderful. However, the book I received has highlighted marks all over it (new) and is out of order. It goes from chapters 1-10 back to a repeated 3-6 and then 11 and 12. I believe this book is being illegally sold.

About the Author
William f. Eng has been a successful trader for nearly 45 years. He is the founder of the Financial Options Consultants and president of FinOpCo, a division of his company that manages and places private funds for investment in the stock, options, and futures markets. Funds under his management have achieved above-average returns. Mr. Eng is the author of The Technical Analysis of Stocks, Options and Futures and is a graduate of Northeastern University.

For intermediate traders

The better I get at making money trading, (not investing), the more these good books show up. (When the student is ready, the teacher will appear). I have read dozens of books over the years like all of you,and most of them did nothing for me except help me part with my money. I would get discouraged and quit the game for a few weeks or a couple of months but love of the game kept bringing me back. And when I picked up books like this one, some years ago, it didn't interest me. Know why? I wasn't ready for it. The reason it interests me now is because through many losses and trial and error, I am finding my way through this trading game and I find myself doing most of the right things now and when I read a book like this one, it confirms it! When I was a novice and not doing the right things, this book didn't confirm it, hence, it didn't appeal to me. I guess what I'm saying is, if your not improving at the trading game, then perhaps you're not ready for this book. If you are, you will be pleased to see yourself on many of the pages, but better yet, the confirmation you'll get from the book will increase your confidence and you just have to make more money. Maybe if you're not doing well and read this book, it will help you, too. All I know is when I was losing every day, I kept reading all the hype in the day trading books, losing money and this book didn't appeal to me. Now I have patience and discipline and sleep better and make money. This book has helped me make more as a position/swing trader of stocks only. Just keep in mind the 4 cardinal rules of trading: 1. Trade the trend, 2. Cut your losses quickly, 3. Let your profits run to infinity, and 4. Manage your risk. And when you learn that managing your risk partly involves losing money properly, then losing money won't bother you anymore. Read and reread this book and perhaps you too can trade the market for a living. And you know what? The markets are crashing and I'm still making money. I'm not sure if I would if I hadn't read the book.

Outstanding! You shouldnt miss this!

The book began with the author's recall of the suicide of his bond trader friend who lost about US$60K in one single Friday in 1982. Quite a sad story, but it did tell how serious the author was about trading and his sincerity of writing a good book that attempted to help traders and those aspiring ones. In my opinion, he did a very good job.

With fifty chapters of individual trading rules (one can refer to the sample page on Amazon.com), the author had discussed, with abundant real life samples, and without nonsense, most of the essential trading rules that I had read here and there in other trading books and had personally experienced, though not effectively put into practice. One might had already read a lot of trading books. I did. However, this one was so well written and organised that I would like to recommend it to anybody who wants to buy a book for easy reference to keep himself/herself well guarded against the ups and downs of trading life.

Only One Text Gives Students Experience "On the Job"

Each chapter opens with an exclusive feature, "On the job: FACING A COMMUNICATION DILEMMA." This slice-of-life vignette summarizes a communication problem being faced by an actual company, such as American Express, Home Depot, the U.S. Mint, Patagonia, and Dell Computer. The solution to the dilemma is found in the concepts presented in the chapter, and the featured company reappears from time to time throughout the chapter to dramatize the connection between chapter principles and life on the job.

But we don't stop there. Each chapter ends with another exclusive feature, "On the job: SOLVING A COMMUNICATION DILEMMA." These simulations expand on the chapter-opening dilemma and are set within the featured company. Students are asked to solve situational problems by applying the principles discussed in the text, by making decisions about the communication process, and by selecting the best alternatives from the choices offered.

Writing for the Web

Writing for the Web is quite different from writing for print, so anyone who wants to be an effective Web writer must learn new skills.     Not too keen on this

    I don't know if it was the class or the text that made me dislike this subject. This subject seems to be in place because people are forgetting how to be professional and writing memos with "instant messenger" style grammar. Maybe this text book will help the new generation become more professional, or maybe it was a complete waste of my money.

    This is a "Must Have" text. If your course requires this text, don't rent it. Definitely buy it. The resources alone are worth the price.

    Valuable content for the business student, educator, or communication major. Real tips such as writing a letter, responding to negative situations such as downsizing, press releases, web communication, social media, and so much more. There are many business examples from the world' stop companies to enhance learning. Great text for the undergraduate as well as the graduate student.

    Excellent Condition, Came in a Timely Manner

    I ordered two copies of this book on a Monday and by Thursday the box containing them was on my doorstep. I skimmed through the pages, and did not see any writing or highlighting despite the "used" condition. The only evidence that the books may have been used before is some very light marks on the cover and a slight bending of the bottom right corner. The price was certainly right as well -- in my school's bookstore, the books were over $160 apiece, and the used copies here were just about $20 each. Great price, great condition, and great shipping time. I definitely would recommend getting the book on Amazon.

    Comprehensive

    Ever wonder what those giant, confusing words on your dichotomous key mean? Look no further!
    It is a very handy book to have if you do not have access to the internet while keying out a new insect. It is also handy if you are a beginner and have no idea what katepisternum (among many other words) means.

    Good book if you want to have to look in only one place for your technical jargoning needs.

    "A Dictionary of Entomology" - a poorly done entomological dictionary in the Kindle format

    To test this very large dictionary I opened Physiologic Systems in Insects. This book is filled with complex words probably almost exclusively limited to entomologist. I used my 27" iMac 3.7 GHz with 8 GB RAM and an i7 core to look at both books side by side. I started at the beginning and looked up "autocrine". Nothing listed. I easily found this word in Webster's 3rd International Dictionary, Then I looked up "prothoracic" which to find I used the Search feature for the Dictionary of Entomology. To find it "easily" you have to wait while this huge dictionary is electronically indexed. The problem with this is that when it is done indexing it shows very place in the Dictionary where the word is used. This is a mixed blessing, since you sure can't do this with the hardbound version. Next, I did it the hard way by pushing the slider at the bottom of the screen and found there were several listings that used modified versions of the word prothoracic, but never just the word itself. I easily found the word and its meaning in the Webster's 3rd International Dictionary and the on-line Oxford English Dictionary.

    Don't get me wrong, the Dictionary of Entomology is probably one of the most thorough and complete sources of entomological terms available. Unfortunately, I bought it in the Kindle format. It obviously was not designed with that in mind. So my suggestion is get an on-line subscription to either the Oxford English Dictionary or the the Webster's, and buy the Dictionary of Entomology in its hardbound version at a $127.30 and the Kindle version for a mere $120.94.
