Very useful!

Great book! It is a textbook in essence but not as dry since it has a story line. Best explanation you can find of the ADPLAN framework and relevant current examples. ADPLAN is the framework used every year for the Super Bowl ad review at Kellogg SM.

We left South Vietnam in 1972. We left with promises we never kept to the South Vietnamese. The Russians resupplied the NVA and the NVA conquered the South in traditional military style in violation of the Paris Peace Accords. Ngan story of how his life and family were destroyed by the North Vietnamese Communist take over will make your heart break.

Worth my reading time!

I still wonder why this book was never written in Vietnamese. The story of Mr. Ngan is quiet intriguing and lots of other vietnamese refugees can relate to his escape to freedom. I am personally touched by his account because I attended the high school he mentioned in the book and also that he used to work where my father also was employed. The writing is sincere and fascinating. I highly recommend to those who are curious about what happened to the vanquished after the fall of South Vietnam. The miseries they went through would be material for any excellent non-fictions. I admire the courage the author displayed and feel very sorry for the loss of his wife and kid.

During the twenty years which have intervened since its first publication I have accumulated much new material, which I now offer to the reader. My philosophical and critical point of view meantime has also somewhat changed. While I still hold to the old doctrines, I interpret them differently and expound them more clearly, because I seem to myself to have reached a fundamental truth which throws new light upon them all. This truth I have tried to set forth in my book entitled “Christ in Creation,” and to that book I refer the reader for further information.

That Christ is the one and only Revealer of God, in nature, in humanity, in history, in science, in Scripture, is in my judgment the key to theology. This view implies a monistic and idealistic conception of the world, together with an evolutionary idea as to its origin and progress. But it is the very antidote to pantheism, in that it recognizes evolution as only the method of the transcendent and personal Christ, who fills all in all, and who makes the universe teleological and moral from its centre to its circumference and from its beginning until now.

About the Author
Kate L. Turabian (1893–1987) was the graduate school dissertation secretary at the University of Chicago from 1930 to 1958. She is also the author of The Student’s Guide to Writing College Papers. Wayne C. Booth (1921–2005) was the George M. Pullman Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in English Language and Literature at the University of Chicago. His many books include The Rhetoric of Fiction and For the Love of It: Amateuring and Its Rivals. Gregory G. Colomb (1951–2011) was professor of English at the University of Virginia and the author of Designs on Truth: The Poetics of the Augustan Mock- Epic. He is coauthor, with Wayne C. Booth and Joseph M. Williams, of the best-selling guide The Craft of Research. Joseph M. Williams (1933–2008) was professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Chicago and the author of Style: Toward Clarity and Grace.

8th edition is legit!!

I upgraded to the 8th edition after my 7th edition was completely worn out- too much use. The 8th is more concise and easy to use as well as includes more citation information for electronic sources, etc.

Required information in an awkward form (Kindle)

I purchased this edition of Turabian as a Kindle book. I own several earlier editions in paper but needed a more current one to match references from an editor. The update is good in terms addressing several modern reference techniques in bibliography and footnote format. But the Kindle edition is difficult to navigate to the extent that it is nearly useless. If you do not need to use Turabian, count yourself lucky. If you are forced to use it, then purchase a paper copy.
