Finally some great research about my favorite topic

As a long-time collector of Woman Suffrage artifacts, I was eagerly looking forward to the publication of Ken Florey’s new book on the subject. I was delighted to find that my expectations were more than met. First of all what impressed me the most about the book were the graphics. There are over 700 postcards pictured in full color in close to actual size. This makes it easy to see detail that might otherwise be missed. I was also pleased with the arrangement of the cards into six separate sections: official cards, Real Photo cards, printed photos, holiday cards, commercial cards issued as singles, and commercial cards issued as sets. This made it easier for me to negotiate the text when I was looking for specific pieces. Each section also has its own numbering system.

What I also found to be extremely helpful were the introductions that preceded each section that gave me both historical and technical background to the cards in that category. It’s a beautiful book and should be of enormous help to both the collector and the scholar. There are many cards here that have never to my knowledge been pictured before and which are probably unknown to even some of the most advanced collectors. For the scholar, these cards give an excellent introduction to period attitudes both pro and con towards suffrage and serve as excellent commentary on the subject that probably can’t be found elsewhere. Definitely a must buy for anyone interested in the subject of women’s rights, women suffrage postcards, or historical postcards in general

A wonderful and important contribution to American history

Kenneth Florey offers a fascinating account of the use of postcards during the American woman suffrage movement. In this extensive carefully categorized collection, the reader not only learns about the historical impact of the use of postcards, but is also treated to over 700 beautifully produced images.

Mr. Florey explains the following about the suffragists use of postcards, “One of the primary reasons for its popularity among activists was that the golden age of the post card, the period from 1902-1915 when post card collecting became an international past time, dovetailed quite conveniently with the final push on both sides of the Atlantic to achieve national suffrage legislation. In America the Woman’s Journal frequently published news, pictures, and advertisements of new cards as did its counterpart in England, Votes for Women… Cards were produced in abundance not only by the suffragists themselves but also by commercial publishers.”

"American Woman Suffrage Postcards" concludes with “Notes” and “Cited Works” sections that give additional detailed information, making this volume especially valuable for researchers, scholars, and collectors.

The expression, familiarity breeds contempt, is all too familiar. But in relationship with one’s spouse, is it not a hindrance for forming a good chemistry between husband and wife? This book analyses this in detail and suggests an array of steps to overcome the fear of intimacy. Many past studies are quoted to give clarity to the facts mentioned. The author starts with trust and elucidates how trust can be built between the partners without causing any issues to the relationship. Obviously, past experiences and individual’s environment have a say on one’s behavior. The chapter “Making peace with past” is explained beautifully with relevant facts. One has to overcome the traumas of the past to live in the present. Overall, this book is an excellent read for all who face similar issues.

Love is not only hard to find, but strange as it may seem, it can be even more difficult to accept and tolerate. Most of us say that we want to find a loving partner, but many of us have deep-seated fears of intimacy that make it difficult to be in a close relationship. The experience of real love often threatens our self-defenses and raises our anxiety as we become vulnerable and open ourselves up to another person. This leads to a fear of intimacy.

In simple words, intimacy is the ability to share the most intimate parts of your being with another person for the purpose of developing a deeper connection or a closer relationship. I picked up this book as a way to understand the behavior of someone close to me, and I was amazed at how much of it I could apply to myself. The book offered so much insight into people and their behaviors. This book has something for everyone that is experiencing some form of difficulty with cultivating healthy intimate relationships.

A short 40-day devotional, but with a strong message. There is a scripture reading each day, a interesting story and at the end of each devotion a some questions for you to think about. This is a new book in the Life is ______ series, Judah also wrote the bestselling series Jesus is________. He uses his own life experiences and shares stories to points out how God loves us and cares about us. He enhances the stories by adding one humor to them. A young pastor, with a wife and kids, has a very strong love of God. His stories are easy to understand and are very down to earth.
The author divides the book into four sections,
Life is to be loved and to love.
Life is to trust God in every moment.
Life is to be at peace with God and yourself.
Life is to enjoy God.
I have read and reviewed both series, and found them enjoyable and a spiritual uplifting in all his writing and would recommend them all.
The books format makes it easy to use for discussion sessions and small Bible studies groups.

Insightful 40 Day Study

I have done 40 day bible studies before as an entire church and I find them to be very effective in bringing everyone in the church together. When everyone is reading the same book and thinking about the same things, you have a lot to talk about! I think Life Is would be a great study for a church to do together.

The book is divided into four sections:

Section 1: Life Is To Be Loved and to Love
Section 2: Life Is to Trust God in Every Moment
Section 3: Life Is to Be At Peace With God and Yourself
Section 4: Life Is to Enjoy God

Why is there a blank in the title? Because author Judah Smith freely admits that he does not have all the answers. Smith is just here to point us at Jesus. Each day (chapter) has a reading from the bible that you need to look up in your bible, a devotional and questions.

My Review:
I have read both books in this series and found them to be both enjoyable and uplifting to me. I can definitely recommend this 40 day devotional to anyone who needs a bit of spiritual uplifting. This is a short devotional but, it has a strong message. Each day there is a bible verse, a short story and some questions for you to ponder as you go throughout your day. Judah Smith uses his own life experiences and adds humor to them to tell us all about how God loves us. This book is divided into four sections but I’m not going to tell you what they are. You’re just going to have to read this book to find out!

Western Romance At It's Best

I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and a review.

Vanessa Vale has brought us another exciting tale of Western Thrill,Excitement and Romance.
This tale will have you Tantalised and wanting more and more.

Piper Sinclair has not had an easy life what with having no mother to care for her and just a father and two brothers that couldn't care less about her, she longs for a better life.

But when Piper finds herself hauled away and in jail by this handsome bounty hunter in connection with some crimes that her family committed, she thinks that the sheriff's word that she wouldn't be involved should be enough to make this stubborn bounty hunter let her go.

But Wiley Easton isn't going to buy it at all. He's heard time and time again that a woman is involved in this crime spree that has left many people including his own father dead. If the sheriff won't do anything about it then he will just have to wait till the judge arrives. He decides he will just have to keep her captive and butt naked so she can't escape him.

But everything changes when the judge shows up the next morning, he side's with the sheriff and explains to Wiley that Piper wouldn't be involved, and not only that but he is furious to find that Wiley has kept an innocent young lady naked in his hotel room. Because Piper has been so dishonoured, the judge orders Wiley to marry her and to return her honour to where it should be.

Wiley Easton had never considered himself the marrying kind of guy. But now he not only has a wife that is related to his father's killers, but he has one that is beyond determined to help him track down the very woman who had very nearly sent her to the gallows in a case of mistaken identity.

This Book is beyond amazing I loved it from the very first page I just new it was going to be a sexy page turner.

Vanessa Vale sure knows how to draw you in to her wonderful worlds she is able to create it gives us the readers an awesome opportunity to live vicariously through her characters.

Wiley is for sure a strong stubborn character he has a good heart deep down and is only doing this because they had killed his father he was seeking the justice he deserved. I loved his stubbornness how he thinks that having a wife wont change anything …. but it sure does and I think it opened his eyes to the real world as well as opening his heart to love.

Piper was my favourite for sore she has a strong nature and a passionate way about her you can tell how loyal she is and how she truly wants a new life with love in it and someone who really cares for her. I adored how she is determined to help Wiley with his case and how she is willing to risk her own life to bring justice for Wiley father and all others that lost relatives or a loved one from this awful woman.

My favourite part of the story is how Wiley awakened Pipers passion and how electric they both are together.

Sweet Justice......Sweet HOTness!

I hate to say this.....but I think this is my favorite Vanessa Vale book to date. Nothing I love better than is a man who thinks he is so smart and then that backfires on him. Mr. Easton, the hot bounty hunter thought he was so smart in finding a way to keep Piper from bolting as his prisoner by keeping her clothes and leaving her in a sheet. All is find and good until the judge shows up and is not pleased that
"Prisoner or not, a woman ca not be treated........so you have given me not choice here execpt to spare Miss Sinclair's virtue......therefore you will marry her."
I love a good shotgun wedding as well....and when the bride is married in a hotel room wearing just a bed sheet things are just getting interesting.
Great read! I would of like to info to what happened to her ranch and if now her new husband was now to get the deed? I loved the thought that they would now start on a new life on his ranch.....but would of liked to have had a few loose ends tied up a bit.

THE BOUNTY HUNTER AND THE VIRGIN

This story has a wonderful plot with interesting twists as the mystery unfolds and criminals are captured and tried. It has a great cast of characters, unique scenes for getting the job done and entertaining dialog. Sometimes what seems like an unfair situation can, in fact, be a blessing in disguise. What appears as a compromising situation of actual innocence, leads to a forced marriage but the circuit judge. This is another wonderfully told western erotica tale from Ms. Vale. Wiley Easton is a bounty hunter, looking for those responsible for the death of several people, including his father. He is after the Sinclair family. Piper Sinclair knows her father and brother are no good, she is sick of their abuse and wishes she could leave, but with their reputation, no one would hire her, she is trapped. When Wiley and his fellow bounty hunters take Piper and her family prisoner, more is captured than fugitives. The sex scenes are steamy hot, the spanking scene is mild.

Solid story

Full disclosure: I count Cassandra Zara AND Tiffany Madison among my favorites in this genre (older male/younger female), and either of them would have to really work hard to NOT write a decent story.

Basic plot: Jenny is young woman under control of a demanding father. David is new neighbor, married, for whom she has a lust. Several little things happen, nothing surprising, but quite sexy in their own ways.

Longer than the usual in this genre but not novel length. Enjoy!

Stupid girl doesn't listen to dad and goes after next door neighbor thinking that he will leave his wife for her. Well, even after her dad repeatedly warns her about how guys would use her (better to save herself for marriage), she gives it up and learns how right her dad was.

The Art and Making of Pan

If you have not watched the movie, this book doesn't give away much in terms of storyline, except the part where they tell you that Hook's going to be the badass pirate Blackbeard in the future.

The Art of Pan is the film's visual companion with a mixture of art and production stories. It actually has quite a lot to read on the filming process, written in a style you normally associate with film magazines.

The book features a good amount of artworks and behind-the-scenes photography. However, the artworks are a mixed bag for me. The scene paintings are a hit and miss. Some are good but most are photo-based artworks with art thrown on top to take advantage of the textures or background provided by the photo. Photo-bashing can be fantastic if done right, such as those you see in The Art of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. In this book, sometimes the scenes don't feel right because of the inconsistent lighting. There are some nice pieces, sure, especially the pencil character sketches (too few anyway).

Set designs are nice, especially for the tribes and their huts. So are the wonderful costume designs. I like the section on the village as the designs there look much better.

Overall, as I've said, it's a mixed bag but slightly more towards the positive side. It's not a must-buy but it's worth checking out or flipping through if you can do so.

It's Great -- For a Textbook

This is a textbook, so I can't honestly say that I love it, but for my class it is really great. It's clear and concise and I like the way it gives you highlights at the end of each chapter as well as test questions -- which my professor always used -- so you know pretty much what you'll need to know. It's thorough and informative but it is also very repetitive through the chapters... to me, at least.

This text was purchased as required reading for a course. The book is overall well organized and easy to read and search. I still had to purchase a book on APA guidelines as this text didn't go into enough detail for the class, but as far as required reading goes, it worked.

About the Author
Kurt Vonnegut was a master of contemporary American Literature. what would you do with 80 million dollars?

An enjoyable book if you like Vonnegut. His usual social commentary. God Bless you Mr. Rosewater focuses on who we help and how we judge others.
The premise:
Mr. Rosewater is a man with about 80 million dollars, he uses mostly to help the people of his town. He pays their car payments, gives them money for whatever they ask. The townsfolk don't all love him, many resent his help. Meanwhile his family thinks he's crazy for helping regular people like this, and they are fighting to get control of the money so they can do "bigger and more important" things with it.

The Benevolent Mr. Rosewater

I have been a Kurt Vonnegut reader since, well, as long as I can remember. In God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, Vonnegut references numerous other characters he has invented throughout his career. Rosewater, the title character, is a benevolent man with the Rosewater Foundation at his disposal. With Democratic and Socialist leanings, he disperses his family's money to practically anybody who asks much to the chagrin of his father, The Senator.

Vonnegut, A Forgotten Genius

Well, Kurt is not really forgotten, but any and all of his books are worth a read today. In one paragraph in this book he pretty much nails why and how western civilization is consuming itself. Hint: has something to do with greed. If you are new to Vonnegut, this is not the first or second book I would read. I'd give five stars to Sirens of Titan, Cat's Cradle, Slaughterhouse Five. Wonderful irony in all his books. A unique writing style and lots of disguised wisdom. Most of all, very funny and highly entertaining.
