Set in the summertime tourist mecca of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, this mystery/suspense novel crosses the storylines of affluent summer tourists and struggling year-round residents when a famed and wealthy adventurer gets stranded in town after an incident at sea. When eccentric billionaire Ferdinand Sevigny's latest stunt, to sail around the world blindfolded, goes awry, he lands in Maine just as the summer tourist season is beginning. Despite mounting evidence to the contrary and an investigation by local police, Sevigny, while holing up in one of the town's grand hotels refuses to admit foul play was involved in his mishap. As the tourists arrive, including two intriguing strangers, a troubled local teenager inadvertently uncovers evidence that presents him with the opportunity to change his lot. The teenager, adventurer, and a host of townspeople will be forced to make decisions that will define them forever.

Review
"Pahigian has constructed a complex thriller, filled with engaging and eccentric characters."
-- Allen Adams, The Maine Edge

"The novel's short, action-packed chapters flip-flop between characters, making for a quick read. Just when the reader figures out one puzzle, another is presented."
-- Aislinn Sarnacki, The Bangor Daily News

"Pahigian has a sure hit."
--Bill Bushnell, The Kennebec Journal

" It's an impressive debut. This suspenseful thriller, imbued with local flavor (settings include Old Orchard Beach landmarks such as The Brunswick and Beach Bagels), is a page-turner with short, snappy chapters that often end in cliffhangers. It would make a great beach read, come to think of it."
--Deirdre Fulton, The Portland Phoenix

"Pahigian employs a few classic tricks, as well as some original red herrings. Most of the chapters are quite short, and work like a series of Dan Brown or Michael Crichton cliff-hangers, providing quick-paced reading and cinematic qualities."
--Tim Gillis, Portland Daily Sun

[Strangers on the Beach] is what I consider the perfect type of "summer read". [It's a] mystery/thriller that will hold your attention until the end. --The Miramichi Reader

The story goes deeper as people struggle to make sense of the madness that Sevigny has seemingly brought to Old Orchard Beach. Residents of the town find themselves entangled in the web of conspiracy surrounding the mysterious Australian. There are forces at work that none of them truly comprehend, with people finding themselves serving as pawns in a game that is far vaster and far more inscrutable than any of them could possibly know. Pahigian has constructed a complex thriller, filled with engaging and eccentric characters. The story unfolds gradually, but it never feels slow-moving. His Old Orchard Beach is populated by fully-realized characters, people whose motivations never feel anything but honest. As we watch these people being enveloped by circumstances whose ramifications they don t fully understand, Pahigian pulls us along with them, slowly building to a climax that is unexpected in the moment, yet seems almost inevitable after the fact. --The Maine Edge

A great mystery/thriller!
By afullerton91
Strangers on the Beach is one of those rare novels that perfectly blends fact with fiction, weaving a dark mystery on top of the small beach town of Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Those familiar with Southern Maine will appreciate the references to local landmarks while all readers will be engrossed by the lively characters that keep the pages turning and the reader guessing as the mystery unfolds.

Page Turner
By Ernie Larsen
When one thinks of Maine, lobster, vacation and L.L. Bean come to mind; certainly not a full-fleged thriller about a very popular tourist destination that garners your attention from the first page and keeps you in its grip until the last sentence.

Josh Pahigian has made the transition from Major League baseball authority to mystery novelist, seamlessly.

Character development is spot on - you truly can relate to some of the locals he portrays.

And if you are at all familiar with Old Orchard Beach - his prose puts you spot in the middle of the action.

As for being a page turner - I have seen many tomes touted as such; none I have read had the effect that Strangers on the Beach did for me.

I trust that this talented author will not keep us waiting too long for his next entry into the world of suspense, debauchery, murder and mystery.

Buy this book - it is an excellent read!

Avid Reader

If you're looking for a great fictional novel pick this one up immediately! This is Pahigian's first venture into the suspense mystery genre. If you've read his baseball books they're great, informational, and humorous but he has really hit a "Grand Slam" with this one, right out of the ballpark!

I've read them all, Brown, Baldacci, Grisham, Follett, Connelly, etc... "this guy is good" I couldn't put it down! If you know Old Orchard Beach all the better, if you don't you will by the time you finish this novel. Well developed characters and storyline that will keep you engaged from beginning to end.

This bright young writer may be "the new kid on the fictional block" but we will certainly be hearing much more about Josh Pahigian in the future. If you're smart and want a treat pick this one up, it's a great read! On second thought, pick up a few as gifts for your friends, they will surely thank you for it.

Hopefully Mr. Pahigian will treat us with another novel before too long, he is a talent to keep your eye on.
