About the Author
Leo Nefiodow Born in 1939, he is one of the most well known German experts of the Theory of Long Waves and one of the most renowned trailblazers of the information society. From 1965 until 2002, he worked in key positions in research and development in the industry and the public sectors. He also served as an advisor to the German Federal Ministry of Research and Technology and multiple German state governments, international organizations and private companies. In 2004, he was a member of the “Our Future Economy” task force by the Club of Rome. One of its emphases includes future research. The first edition of his book "Der sechste Kondratieff" (The Sixth Kondratieff) was published in 1996. It was the first publication in the world to identify the sixth Kondratieff. Nefiodow illustrates a holistic concept of health as the catalyst and carrier of the sixth Kondratieff and makes recommendations for handling the current problems such as the lack of a sustainable growth concept in the developed countries, high unemployment rates and underemployment, insufficient health care productivity, globally increasing disorder, crime and destruction. Since 1996, Nefiodow has written more than 100 publications and given over 300 lectures on the sixth Kondratieff. He has proven the forecasting ability of the Theory of Long Waves in his publications and lectures and paved the way to an extensive discussion on the future. Those countries, regions, companies and people that focus on the sixth Kondratieff early on, will be among the winners in the 21st century. Simone Nefiodow Simone Nefiodow completed her degree in education at the University of Koblenz, Germany, and her Master of Theology at the Faculty of Theology in Paderborn. As a scientific officer for the Nefiodow Consulting Firm (“Unternehmensberatung Nefiodow”), she has worked on the practical implementation of the Theory of Long Waves for the past 20 years. Her key areas of expertise and research focus are social, mental and spiritual health. She is also a freelance journalist.

Wow! We should all be reading this book

With all the books on the economy out there, why should you read this particular book on Kondratieff waves? Let me just say read the book and be prepared to be surprised and have your eyes opened. Be prepared to change your point of view and see where we are headed in this Sixth Kondratieff.
There are many suggestions by other economists on what the next innovation will be. Maybe you have been led to believe that it’s all about renewable energy, because we have all heard this so many times by now. Though the two authors are incredibly thorough in also detailing this particular aspect, while debating yet other options of what this new so-called basic innovation might be, it’s not green energy (though it will continue to be a big issue in our future of course). No, the Sixth Kondratieff is in fact entirely a health-related cycle, encompassing health in its physical, psychological, mental, psycho-mental, social and spiritual aspects.
Yet what makes this book so special in my mind are the slightly more “unexpected” parts in a book on the economy. Leo Nefiodow proves to be an economist, who is more than just a brilliant scientific mind (and he has many industry credentials to prove it; among them being a consultant for the German Government and various state governments), but who is also a deeply spiritual being. Aside from providing an excursion into our past economic history (a very interesting read and very enlightening to a non-economist like myself!), there is a whole section on consciousness and health that is one of the more interesting things I have read in a long time. Chapter 8 outlines the five levels of health at the physical, biological and biosocial level for instance. This one was a true revelation. There are so many great Chapters and aspects discussed in this book, it’s really hard to pick a favorite, because they are all important and deserve to be highlighted in their own right.
Yet one of my personal favorites has to be Appendix 7 (make sure to read ALL of the Appendices by the way, because they are potent and packed with essential information that could even be the content of its own book), which delves into the information and physics realm. Again, not something, you would necessarily expect in an economics book, but it just proves how thorough the authors are in explaining where we are headed and WHY.
Perhaps the most unexpected part though is that for the first time in the history of the Long Waves, it won’t be a material innovation such as a steam engine, car or computer that will propel mankind forward, but rather the human being as the source of future prosperity. This is no doubt a new and perhaps almost controversial concept, but the Nefiodows expertly show us why this is the case and why it can make America (and all the countries that are smart enough to realize its potential early on) as big and prosperous again as we have come to expect.
Long story short: Read this book. You won’t be disappointed and you will come away with a new wealth of knowledge on so many different aspects and hopefully gain a brand-new perspective. If you are interested in our future at all, you add this one to your shopping cart.
