About the Author
Bernard M. Bassis Distinguished Professor of Management Emeritus and Founding Director of the Center for Leadership Studies at Binghamton University, State University of New York. Dr. Bass is the author of over 300 articles and 24 books concentrating on leadership, organizational behavior, and human resource management. Between 1952 and the present, he has been the principal investigator on numerous federal, state, and private foundation research grants.� He was the founding Editor ofThe Leadership Quarterly, and he has consulted with and conducted training for many of the Fortune 500 firms and has lectured or conducted workshops in over 40 countries. Professor Bass is also a Senior Scientist for the Gallup Organization and a member of the Board of Governors for the Kravis Leadership Institute.

If you study leadership, this is a MUST READ

I can't think of a more influential author in modern leadership theory. This work and the theory that was its genesis is a remarkable convergence of well-reasoned theory and well-designed empirical research.
After this book, you will have a reasonable grasp on the concept of human leadership as it is currently studied in psychology and increasingly in business. It is the perfect companion for anyone using MLQ leadership scale.

An easy read that identifies the key characteristic of transformational leaders (as well as transactional and pseudo-transformational leaders). This book puts some "social science" around the information that most of us have "gut feelings" about anyway. Those looking to improve their leadership skills will benefit from this book. The real shame is that those managers and supervisors who generally "suck" and are happy with mediocrity probably won't pick the book up, much less read it.
