Hydraulic pumps were described in detail with good accompanying illustrations. Selection of pump types, by an engineer, based on efficiencies, flow rate and power, pressure, and displacement are well defined. The principle of flow control is well presented supported by mathematics and diagrams with a good description of check valves, pressure relief valves, and sequence valves.

Full of promise, but ...

This would be a great book, if only it wasn't so fraught with errors. For example, p15 shows equation for 'mechanical lever' to actually reduce the output force from a given input force - this force would actually be increased greatly over the input force. While the text otherwise indicates this correctly, the transposing of smaller diameter symbol with larger diameter changes the meaning.
Unfortunately, there are too many more errors in the book to mention here, as space doesn't allow. A frustrating read, not reliable for an everyday reference. Hopefully an errata, or 'mea culpa' new edition will come out soon. Not worth the price of admission currently - don't buy this one!

The book does cover many areas in provide good basic information. But it however filled with errors such wrong references, and wrong equations. The standards use as reference in the book is outdated and has been withdrawn many years ago! The print quality is very poor and most of the illustrations are very low on quality.
The layout and setup of the chapters, and subchapters is very poor, and it can be difficult to see the “red line” in the book.
Compare the price to others book on hydraulics this book is waste of money.
