About the Author
Aravind Adiga was born in Madras in 1974. He studied at Columbia and Oxford universities. A former India correspondent Time magazine, his articles have also appeared in publications like the Financial Times, the Independent, and the Sunday Times.

Great book!

The book itself is amazing! Adiga continues to build on the gritty, uncompromising realism that he's exploited for his other works, White Tiger and Between the Assassinations. It is a testament to his skill as a writer that he can describe a decaying Mumbai neighborhood extremely realistically while still injecting some feeling into it -- you can smell the sewage and the fried street food and still manage to make a connection with the locale and people Adiga writes about.
If you are new to India, I would recommend reading this book. Please do not read Shantaram. "Last Man in Tower" (or, even better, "Behind the Beautiful Forevers") is a much more realistic and uncompromising view of life in the city. It gives you an idea of the desperate lives people lead -- a very dramatic and emotionally charged experience, but with a healthy dose of the ridiculousness that reality always provides. Definitely recommend this book.
